Cannon AFB Consolidated Communications Facility

The purpose of the project is to provide a communications facility that will consolidate many communication functions and requirements into one location on base.  The new facility, when grouped with the remaining portion of Building 10 and Building 772, will provide a more centralized location on the base for communications activities. 

The Communications Squadron consists of the following five sections/flights and mission of each is as follows: 

Command Section (CSS) is the operation of the Communication Squadron and cash resource management. 

Plans Flight (SCX) is the planning and implementation of all communication projects, mobility readiness and the operation of the Official Mail Center, publications, forms management, records management, Privacy Act and Freedom of Information Act and providing communications security. 

AQ Flight (SCQ) conducts Quality Assurance Evaluations (QAE). 

Tactical Flight (SCP) provides mobile, deployable communication systems when required. 

Support Flight (SCO) provides the operation and maintenance of the base telephone switch, the main airfield systems, network operations and runs the equipment control office. 

The new communications facility will have a main ceremonial drive on base.  The building will consist of two stories.  The first floor will house the administrative space for the Command Section (CSS) as well as other administrative areas and storage for the other flights.  It will also have a workspace for the switchboard operations and a secure COMSEC vault.  The second floor contains a training room, additional administrative space, and a Network Control Center (NCC), which will contain both secure and unsecure workspaces as well as a secure data center.  The completed facility is 42,246 sq feet. 

Features of work include minor demolition, hazardous material control, structural concrete, cast-in-place concrete, and masonry; structural steel, joists, decks and cold-formed metal framing; steel, wood, aluminum and overhead doors; exterior finishes comprised of CMU and stucco; interior finishes comprised of ceramic tile, acoustical ceilings, resilient flooring, carpet, and rigid grid access flooring; specialty finishes include interior signage, wall and corner guards, toilet compartments and accessories, fire extinguishers, metal lockers, window blinds and entrance floor mats; fire suppression system comprised of wet pipe sprinkler system and fire pumps; hydraulic elevators; HVAC systems including boilers and water chillers, unitary air conditioning equipment and computer room AC units; electrical systems with interior distribution, switchboards, panelboards, electric meters, VFD  systems, diesel-generator set with auxiliaries, UPS, automatic transfer switches, lightning protection system, cathodic protection system, interior and emergency lighting, exit signs, exterior lighting, lighting poles and low-voltage motors; communications include cable television premises distribution system, building telecommunications cabling system, communications optical backbone cabling, and wire line data transmission system; electronic safety and security, interior fire alarm and mass notification system; exterior improvements 56,173sf parking area for 160 park spaces, landscaping, concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters, chain link fences and gates; and utilities which include water distribution system, natural gas and liquid petroleum piping, sanitary sewer system, storm drainage utilities, prefabricated underground heating/cooling distribution system, underground electrical distribution system and outside plant telecommunications.  The project was designed and constructed to meet the LEED Silver Certification standards.
