Project Description

This project consists of the design and construction of four new concrete parking spots to support everyday C-17 operations just South of the existing CCH, AMC Terminal, and Fire Station. The scope of work includes pavement demolition, grading, concrete ramp, shoulder pavement sections, pavement structure, geotextiles, utilities, drainage inlets and manholes, relocation of existing lights with poles and pavement striping. The Project area encompasses 35,000 to 40,000 square meters (17,417 CY’s of concrete)with a 14-inch concrete depth. The project is within proximity to on-going construction, the base fire station, on-going aircraft maintenance and the AMC terminal. Design and construction require close coordination and phasing of work to minimize impacts to the surrounding activities. Night work and possible dewatering of parts of the project area are considerations.

Parking ramp pavement design is for a C-17 Aircraft based on Air Force Medium-load, Type B traffic areas. Vehicular design traffic for C-17 engine trailers, HS 20 trucks, and fire trucks at North concrete shoulder pavement. San Juan was required to prepare a plan for site security during construction. The plan included detailed procedures for controlling access to the project site through the use of gate guards, ID badges, entry access lists and other measures as required by the Air Base.
