Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, U.S. Navy Support Facility

This design-build project provides a one-thousand square meter, two story, 14 unit, 28 bedroom bachelor enlisted quarters, including lounges and mechanical and electrical utility rooms. This project is located in Diego Garcia, B.I.O.T. Each unit consists of two bedrooms, a kitchenette, bathroom, acrylic polymer surface countertops, base and wall cabinets, and closets. One designated unit is required to conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). The facility has exterior stairways and balconies.

The project is designed to conform with the NSF Diego Garcia Base Exterior Architectural Plan (BEAP) and applicable Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) requirements. Based upon Government provided conceptual drawings and performance specifications that established the concept and layout, the designer completed the conceptual design, specifications and drawings. Upon approval by Navy, the contractor proceeded to construct the facility per contract requirements. The structure is designed for 105 mph wind loads and seismic category D. The foundation design is based on a geotechnical investigation performed by a geotechnical engineering firm on behalf of the designer and contractor.
