Facility Expansion Inside Building 7114, NBK Bangor, Silverdale, WA
The purpose of this project was to design and construct an expansion of several existing facilities inside the high bay area of Building 7114 at NBK Bangor Service Pier. The purpose of the expansion is to support the Specialized Research Diving Detachment (SRDD) operations. In addition to expanding the existing structure to provide more floor space, some of the existing facilities were remodeled/reconfigured, and new furnishings and equipment were installed. The project included the construction of a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).
The existing HVAC system for the facilities consisted of a natural gas-powered heating system and outside air ventilation. There was no cooling capability within the system. New cooling capability was required for the existing office room 222, existing classroom, room 221, and existing shop, room 121, and the new offices, dive locker, shop and storage spaces constructed inside the high bay under this contract.
Direct digital controls (DDC) were added which resulted in an expansion of the existing BACnet DDC system. The design conformed to the NBK Control Systems Design Guide. Each room shall have its own limited range of control, as allowed by the control system central workstation.
Modifications to the existing electrical, telecommunications, domestic water, sewer, and fire protection systems were also required. Electrical modifications included addition of convenience and dedicated power receptacles in the shop area of Building 7114. This included a dedicated single circuit, 460V, 3 phase, 60Hz, 20 amp receptacle.
